Monday, July 25th, 2011Position: Project Coordinator (Parliament Watch)

Remuneration: Mrf 10,000 per month
Contract duration: 8 months
Project: Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN), with the assistance of British High Commission in Colombo is conducting a project to help ensure that legislation passed by the People’s Majlis conforms to international human rights standards and democratic principles. The project will also provide information regarding parliamentarians and parliamentary affairs to constituents in order to ensure more accountability.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of this project will be divided between 3 project staff
- Implementation of the project on behalf of MDN
- Research into Legislation
- Monitor Parliament Performance
- Updating MDN’s website designed specifically for this project
- Overseeing the financial aspects of the project
- Preparing and submitting required reports
- Contributing to the overall aims and objectives of the organization
Requirements:
- Minimum requirement of 3 A’Level passes but a first degree is preferred
- Proficient in both English and Dhivehi
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in a team
- Computer literacy (familiarity with Microsoft word and excel)
- A high level of self-motivation and passion for human rights and democratization issues

Contract duration: 9 months
Project: The Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN) had started the second phase of the Network of Human Rights Defenders Project funded by AUSAID. The project aims to establish a country wide network of human rights defenders which will enable us to monitor, advocate and lobby for human rights effectively in their islands. It also intend to facilitate a means for which the locals in smaller island communities can seek help by reaching out to these trained human rights defenders.
Responsibilities:
- Leading the project implementation on behalf of MDN
- Travel to islands to conduct Human Rights Defender Trainings
- Liaising with the donor agency (AUSAID)
- Overseeing the financial aspects of the project
- Preparing and submitting required reports
- Contributing to the overall aims and objectives of the organization
Requirements:
- Minimum requirement of 3 A’Level passes but a first degree is preferred

Sunday, February 13th, 2011Position: Project Coordinator (Political Violence Monitoring)
Salary: Mrf 10,000 per month
Contract duration: 7 months with possibility of extension based on performance
Project: The Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN) is initiating a USAID funded project with technical assistance from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) to monitor political violence in the Maldives. The project will seek to monitor, identify and understand the trends and causes behind political violence in the country. The project will also stimulate dialogue between stakeholders to generate recommendations with a view to mitigating violence in the future.
Responsibilities:
- Leading the project implementation on behalf of MDN
- Liaising with the donor agency (USAID) and the implementing partner (IFES)
- Overseeing the financial aspects of the project
- Preparing and submitting required reports
- Limited media monitoring
- Building relationships with various stakeholders, including political parties
- Contributing to the overall aims and objectives of the organization
Requirements:
- Minimum requirement of 3 A’Level passes but a first degree is preferred
- Proficient in both English and Dhivehi
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in a team

MDN is looking for enumerators
Saturday, January 15th, 2011Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN), is looking for 7 energetic Maldivians to work as enumerators for a survey to be conducted in Male’. The selected persons will be given a one day training by our staff and will be expected to participate in the survey for 15 days.
Major Responsibilities:
• Participate in the enumerator training, and assist our staff to pilot the survey tool
• Visit selected households and conduct the survey tool according to the instructions of MDN
• Record data as per the instructions of MDN
• Report daily progress on work and consult with supervisor on issues
Qualifications/ Desired Qualities:
• Above 18 years of age (Interested candidates who are in the ages between 16-18 can participate by providing us with a letter of consent from their parents)
• Able to read, write understand and speak English
• Able to read, write, understand and fluently speak Dhivehi
• People oriented, and enjoy working in a team
• Must be available exclusively for enumerator work within duration of the contract
Benefits:
• An opportunity to participate in a nationwide survey to bring about the first human rights situation report of the country

• A reasonable allowance will be paid per work day
Duration of the Contract: 8 Days (tentative work period is from 08 January to 15 January 2012)
